Starter Guide for pre-setup machines
The laptop we have sent you has been set up with most of the tools it needs already. All we need to do is get you signed in, install any additional tools you need and do one final check of your machine.
The below guide will guide you through logging in and checking our remote software is ready. At some point in your first few days we will try to get connected to your laptop to check everything is setup correctly, we will message you about this in your first few days.
- Plug in and turn on your laptop.
- Once the laptop gets to the login screen we need to connect your laptop to the internet. On the bottom right-hand side, you should be able to access the Wifi menu and connect to your Wifi network.
- Once you're connected to wifi, you should see two login options on the lower left-hand side of the Screen. An IT Admin option and a Google login option. Please click on the Google login option.
- Enter your DT Google email. Then enter your Google password. You can use these details to log in to any company machine.
- A message may come up explaining we can manage your device. Please click "I agree".
- After a few moments, you should be logged in. Please open Google Chrome.
- When you open Chrome after a few moments a popup should show up asking about setting up Google sync. Please select the setup Sync option, and then I'm in. This will ensure any bookmarks and passwords you save will be accessible from any machine you log in from.
- Go to Chrome Remote Desktop. Access this by searching "Chrome Remote Desktop" in google and clicking on Google/Chrome remote desktop
- Under the "Share this Screen" option should be a button. It will show one of two things. Either it will say "Generate Code" or it will have a download downwards arrow icon. If you see a Generate Code button move on to step 10. If it shows a download button please click it and run through the setup steps. You'll have to download the Chrome Remote Desktop extension as part of this. Once it's done the button will say "Generate Code".
- Let the Tech Team know you've logged in now and have Chrome Remote Desktop ready. They will want to do a final check of your laptop and also install any additional tools you may need that they couldn't install before you setup your account on the laptop. We will organise a time with you to do this once we know you're logged in ok.
